Using Social Media Tools in Higher Education

September 8, 2009

Today I piloted my first use of SlideShare, a Web technology that allows the sharing of presentations online.

I figured a great PowerPoint to post for my trial run using it would be the presentation I gave last Friday at the Grapevine conference at Sweet Briar College, on using social media tools in a higher education context. (It was a fantastic conference, promoting the personal and professional development of African-American women in careers at higher education institutions all over the state of Virginia.)

The presentation explored how the explosion of the Internet and social media tools has changed our society…and how in turn, that affects marketing and promotional strategies, both personally and organizationally speaking.

With a focus on higher ed institutions, I then discussed some innovative uses of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and RSS that I’ve seen to increase university constituency engagement. Check out the PowerPoint presentation on SlideShare.
